E-Waste

Turn old electronics into new opportunities

At Resource Collective, we’re passionate about giving electronics a second life and keeping as much as possible from landfills. We accept various electronic waste items, whether working or not, including computers, laptops, mobile devices, electronic cables, etc.

Some items do incur a recycling or processing fee. While computer e-waste and batteries don’t need to be in working condition, most other electronics must be clean, free of rust or mould, and fully functional.

That’s because items in good condition are tested, tagged, and sold in our retail store, helping us fund our broader sustainability efforts.

We want to be clear: we’re not a dump.

By sorting and understanding what’s accepted and why, you directly support our mission to divert waste from landfills and build a more circular, community-focused economy.

E-waste donation FAQ

E-waste mainly consists of tech stuff, such as computers, laptops, TVs, printers, cell phones, stereos, and devices with screens or circuit boards.

Yes, bring them in! We accept broken TVs and monitors, so there is no problem. Note: there is a recycling charge for these.

Some items might have a small fee to help cover safe recycling. Just ask our team when you arrive or check our current list.

Nope! Working or not, we’ll take them off your hands.

Yes, please! We take all kinds of parts, such as cables, keyboards, hard drives, and more.

We sort and send it to specialist recyclers who recover the useful bits and safely handle the rest. Items are dismantled where possible and go to Echo Tech in Auckland to be processed further. Our charges are to cover some of the recycling charges and transport to get e-waste to Auckland.  These charges are quite large, so even if we wanted to take this for free, we can’t afford to. Nothing goes to landfill if we can help it.

We recommend wiping your data before dropping off devices. But if you’re not sure how to do it, don’t worry.  All of our e-waste is sent to Echo Tech. These guys are amazing, and they ensure that all data on devices are wiped clean.
